Cuvée St Césaire vintage 2024
Saint Césaire, produced by the monks of the Abbey of Lérins, is characterised by its complexity, structure, fatness and length on the palate. It can be drunk young or cellared (12°, 80% humidity) for 7 to 8 years.
The 2024 vintage was marked by contrasting weather conditions, with significant rainfall. After five years of drought, the initial heavy rainfall was welcome for replenishing water reserves. However, flowering suffered from this humidity, and the risk of mildew persisted right through to veraison. Only August offered dry, warm conditions, enabling the grapes to ripen satisfactorily. Although yields were low, the aromas of the vintages were promising. The year's relatively cool climate also contributed to good balance and freshness in the wines.

The Saint Césaire 2024 cuvée produced around 2,000 bottles from a 0.52 ha parcel of Chardonnay. Organic viticulture is practised on a deep clay and dolomite terroir. The grapes are harvested in the morning in August, pressed and then fermented at low temperature for 27 days in casks and stainless steel vats. Maturing on the lees for 10 months in barrel refines its roundness.
Saint Césaire 2024 has a golden colour with silvery tints and is an invitation to taste. The nose is a harmony of sweet peach, grapefruit and brioche. On the palate, this lively nectar quickly gives way to a smooth, silky fullness. The palate is filled with buttery notes complemented by a hint of broom flowers and sweet spices. The finish is round and exceptionally long.
